What Is Project B.E.A.R.?

We believe that every child is a precious blessing, no matter how short their time with us and whether or not we got to hold them in our arms or just in our hearts.

About Project B.E.A.R.
Project B.E.A.R. was founded in memory of Jeremiah Joseph Spering, who was stillborn at 37 weeks on April 17, 2008 & Vincent Joseph Spering who was born June 2, 2009 and passed away June 15, 2009.
We draw strength from our son’s namesake verse Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” The knowledge that we will one day hold our children again fills us with hope.
We in turn endeavor to provide some comfort to those who suffer a similar loss and let them know they are not alone.
Project B.E.A.R. sends teddy bears to hospitals as well as to individuals who request them, free of cost. Our bears provide tangible comfort & support to families navigating the challenging path of loss.
We also send bears to families with a baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit & to those struggling with infertility. Anyone suffering the pain of a child's absence is welcome to a bear.

Our Mission

To help, comfort & support grieving families that have lost a baby due to miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or termination, or those who have a baby currently in the NICU, by giving them a teddy bear to honor their precious child.
To bring awareness to the reality of miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, infertility and premature birth.
To honor and remember babies who are lost to us.
To comfort those struggling with infertility.
To cultivate a community of caring & understanding.

Important Updates

We are excited to announce the arrival of our new bears!
To better support grieving families, we now offer 8" and 12" Pouch Bears! These bears are designed in the same style as our Baby Loss Bears but have a discreet zipper pocket in the back, making them ideal for holding keepsakes or adding weight for comfort.
8" Pouch Bears are available free of charge to our hospital and community partners and can also be purchased by individual families in our online shop.
12" Pouch Bears provide extra space for keepsakes or added weight and are available for purchase exclusively through our website. Hospital and community partners interested in receiving 12" Pouch Bears by donation can contact us through our form.
Each Pouch Bear is partially stuffed and shipped with an empty pouch, giving families the option to customize their bear in a way that best supports their grief journey.
Our Early Loss Bears are now 6 inches instead of 5 inches for individual families who have experienced miscarriage or early pregnancy loss. Hospitals and community partners will continue to receive our 5" Early Loss Bears.
We will continue to provide our fully stuffed 8" Baby Loss, NICU, and Infertility Bears to families and community partners.
Individual Free Requests:
Please accept our deepest condolences.
Due to an overwhelming number of requests, there will be a longer-than-usual wait time for individual free bears. We appreciate your patience as we work as quickly as possible to fulfill each request with care.
If you would like to receive your bear sooner, and you have not yet received a free bear from Project B.E.A.R., consider expediting your request for priority shipping.
Due to the recent increase in tariffs, the cost of importing our bears has risen significantly. In order to preserve our current supply and ensure we remain operational while we work to finalize our next large bear order, we will be slowing down the rate at which we send out bears.
Please know: we are not ending our free bear program. Your comfort matters deeply to us, and our mission to support grieving families remains unchanged. This adjustment will allow us to continue fulfilling that mission sustainably.
If you are in a position to help, every donation, no matter the amount, goes directly toward getting bears into grieving arms. We are so grateful for your understanding and continued support during this time of transition.
